Guess I'll start the weekend thread with the news that I am a Grandma again. My only daughter had her baby yesterday at 4:53pm est, he weighted in at 5 lbs. 14 ozs. He weighted just 2 ozs. less than his Mom weighted when she was born. His name is Dylan Lee.
Guess this means I will be knitting on Dylan's blanket, just need to put an edging on it. Do need to mail a Santa hat to her before Christmas.
Think I am done with gift knitting for this year. Will try to get in a little spinning some how this weekend. Need to decide on a pattern so I can make moi some red socks out of handspun yarn. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! _________________ needleq

Speaking of edging, I'm knitting a little scarf using an intense ruffle pattern that is about killing my hands. By the time I did the KtFB four rounds, the stitch count became pretty dramatic. Never again on metal needles. I'm going to replace my KPs metals with the wood ones this year. _________________ SK Rescue Site

Please tell me that "15 pounds" is a typo. Then tell me where we can see pictures of the new member of the family! Congratulations!!
We will be caroling in the rural part of the county tomorrow afternoon, followed by a huge in-town caroling party. What to bake, what to bake...?
I'm trying to crank out a stocking cap for Himself. He has very cute ears, and I'd hate to see them freeze off just because he has to work outside. I'm also weaving a scarf in Ultra Alpaca. It's sooooo fine and soft, I'm sorely tempted to keep it.
I posted a few pictures from our Oklahoma jaunt, baked two cheaterkuchen, and got some actual sleep last night. Ready to take on the world! Right after this cup of coffee... |

Congratulations NeedleQ!! That's wonderful news. I just got back from picking up my daughter from university so I'm happy but tired.
No knitting on the schedule...busy times and I (and my sibs and our wonderful spouses) have to act as waitress/bartenders/coat check girls... at my mom's annual Christmas open house this weekend.
Lots of snow here...chilly! |

Wow lots going on here!!! Congrats NeedleQ! Also glad to hear that was a typo Glad to hear that everyone is happy and healthy. Audrey, have fun carolling - hope your party is wonderful. Viola, you must be glad your daughter is home. We also have a lot of snow and it was pretty nippy this week.
Unfortunately I am not on facebook yet! But would love to join this circle of friends when I do!
Just came back from my oldl school's staff Christmas party tonight. We played some games and one that I really liked was a carolling game - there was one line from a carol with a word missing. We had to guess the missing word and the title of the carol correctly. It was a blast - there were some well known ones but also some classics such as We three Kings, The First Noel and Silent Night! There were 15 in all that we had to get right. We had a good time. It was good to see my colleagues and join in the festivities. Unfortunately with my new position, I often work alone and we don't get together as a team that often.
This weekend my MIL is arriving for Christmas. She usually comes for a couple of weeks to spend the season with us. We pick her up at the train station tomorrow. I still have a week of school before the holidays while my friends from the other school board started holidays today. That's okay, I really like having the whole week after New Year's to relax. We are working until the 23rd. Might get some spinning in or even more knitting. «hmmm also planning a LYS trip to the big city and might meet up with a good friend!
OTN is an earflap hat for my friend's little boy. I am hoping to line it with fleece and have it ready for the holidays.
Well, have a great week everyone and stay warm! _________________ Appaloosa

Hi all!
Congratulations to Granny Alice. at 5lbs baby Dylan is a tiny scrap - my -now huge- babies were 9 & nearly 9. Oh the joys of being a father.
Talking of whom, my eldest has had the disappointment of being turned down for places at 2 Unis these past 2 days - Oxford & Warwick. I think she has managed the expectation reasonably - competition is fierce - Warwick are oversubscribed by over 10: 1 - Now I reckon my girl should easily be in the top 2%, but then I'm biassed.
Let it snow Let it snow Let it snow! Almost a whole inch of wet slushy stuff last night. I know you all get heaps of the stuff over there - and indeed in Scotland, but it is possible, just possible that I might see my first ever White Christmas in Southampton in my 51st year.
Knitting: DD has an elf for a friend, so I made these for her Christmas present - she said she was going to buy the wool, but in the end it all came out of the stash.
I don't usually have a good background for knitting project photos.
The pattern is another Nancy Bush one, so it's just as well that the friend is an elf. _________________ To Err is Human

Congrats on the new gandbaby, NQ.
Pete, lovely socks. I can be an elf to get a pair.
Continuing on the MIL sweater. Almost done with the body knitting. Soon as I finish the sleeves I need to seam it up and then knit on the button/button hole band and add the buttons. I think it will be done by Christmas Eve.
We have snow here and it is supposed to stay cold so we may wake to a white Christmas. It is supposed to snow more on Christmas Day. I can't remember when we had our last white Christmas. I hope we have one this year.

According to our weather service the chance of having a White Christmas here runs 83% each year...I only remember a few green Christmases. My fave memory is when it looked like we were going to have no snow then Christmas eve, as we were walking to Church, great big snowflakes started to fall...magical!
Love the socks Pete and your snow! Great photo.
Lou... Face to Face time is even better! Should be fun, I'm looking forward to it. |

| Home at last. Spent 2 weeks with dd until the new boiler was installed. The house was so cold - 30 degrees in the stitting room. We also had a burst pipe. Got a bit of a shock when visiting my house to find water pouring out the side. I thought the whole house was flooded but fortunately the water flowed outside through the wall and not into the house. What a relief. Not much knitting as I spent my time on the phone and panicing. Now almost on course for Christmas - cards posted - marzipan on the christmas cake. But the best thing of all - I am warm.Happy Christmas all. |

Wow, Pete, those socks are great! I'm amazed at the weather you all are having across the pond. My little sis is in Germany for ten days, and can't motor around very much with all the snow they have. And where we are, where we should be getting plenty of snow, it'll be 50+ degrees F tomorrow (11C). It's crazy. Stay warm everyone! Enjoy those grandbabes - they are so precious when they're new! _________________ SK Rescue Site

Wow, so much going on! I'm sorry I didn't check in sooner so I could be equally shocked at the "15 pound" baby
Pete - FABULOUS socks!!
Albannach - I think we should have sent Pete to your house - maybe he could have fixed the pipe and then sat down for a knit and a chat with you
Viola - how nice to have so many white Christmases! I'm a bit like Pete - I had my first white Christmas when I was 50 - doesn't look like this year will be a repeat (although I had my first white Thanksgiving this year!). Judy - good luck in being a member of the White Christmas Club!
Have fun playing on Facebook! I'm like Lou - not on (however, that is intentional and I'm doing my best to avoid FB).
Dani, the last time I knit with the metal needles it took me nearly two weeks for my hands to stop throbbing. I am ordering the KP harmony (wood) needles as I need new sizes and they are SO MUCH easier on my ends. And quite a lovely point. I'm working on a lace project with Zephyr (very fine laceweight) and the harmony needles are working as well as my Addi lace needles did.
Alice! Congratulations on re-Grandma-ing
I have one more day to work this year (Monday). Met my gang of gal knitters this morning, then spent the afternoon with two of them as they did some shopping (I'm all done and since I didn't have to drive or park or spend money (except for lunch) it was strangely relaxing for me). We went to Ikea first and before shopping, hit their cafe for Swedish meatballs and lingonberry jam - if anyone knows Ikea, that's the iconic meal. And tasty. And cheap. Since Ikea is very close to our LYS I have a feeling we might do that more in the future!
Tomorrow I'll mostly be making candy all day for friends at work. I bought some containers today and I have ribbon, etc. to polish off my little offerings. For those of you who celebrate Christmas, here is something that has been amusing me this week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZrf0PbAGSk (I work in high tech so this is really viral among the folks I work with)
Merry Christmas!
