|
|
I knit my husband a pair of socks in worsted weight - very basic. I have worked the length already as it was too long but now it seems that the gusset area seems big too him. What it does is tend to loosen up the heel area and make it move around - any help? He does have a narrow heel - any suggestions for a type of heel to best fit this?
Thanks for any help!

A shorter heel flap, with less stitches picked up along the side would fix this problem.

| Thanks for the reply! So I can shorten the heel flap - no problem - when you say fewer stitches picked up along the side, do you mean that the shorter heel flap will have fewer to pick up or that I should not pick up a stitch for each row? I hope that made sense... Then I proceed with the sock as before? That makes sense as there should be fewer rounds of decreases as well, right? I didn't have this problem with the socks I made my kids but I was modifying a pattern to accommodate the size 13 foot. |

Yes, a shorter heel flap makes for less stitches to pick up. I usually use a 2" heel flap, but if I am knitting for someone with a high arch, I will make it
2 1/4" even 2 1/2". This adjustment changes the size of the gusset area.
