The weekend thread is open! So, any plans for the weekend? (knitting or otherwise?)

Thought I'd throw out a question too - anybody have any completed pairs of socks for the month of January? (I know...Jan isn't QUITE over Wink )

Still working on sock #2 in Koigu, I got the heel done and now I'm just shaping it so I can start working on the foot. My "rush" to finish it is over so now I'm just sitting back and knitting when I can. Its been kind of a crazy week around here and I didn't have a lot of knitting time...so maybe this weekend I will be able to get some time in.

Working more on the toe up gusset heel flap sock, the tabi sock for dd, red scarf for friend in Washingtion state son. Still haven't decided what size needle to use for for the branching out scarf in kidsilk haze, thinking size 6 or maybe smaller. Any thoughts on needle size? Checked ravelry(sp) and found that the ones there use from an 8(called for in pattern) to 3's and 4's. May have to do the dreaded swatch to find whats suits me.

Needleq, I did branching out in kidsilk on an 8 and liked it. Because of the "haze" kidsilk (at least for lace knitting) often is knitted with an 8 - it makes a very ethereal sort of lace fabric. Tons and tons of the patterns in Victorian Lace are knitted with just that combination. It may look odd when you start out if you're not used to lace, but stick with it. Use the pointiest needles you have - and be real attentive to the pattern because kidsilk is next to impossible to tink (or frog). If you ever have a major tink/frog situation with it, it *does* help to put the project in the freezer for a bit and then carefully undo the stitches (don't laugh, it works Wink ).

I got my Knitpicks order with included a pair of 24" US1 needles to try a sock on circs. I CO last night and did a 2x2 sock cuff. THEN I decided I didn't want to do a plain sock so got out SKS and more SKS. I haven't decided between a couple patterns, but the upshot is that I know I'll be ripping out that cuff tonight and doing a different rib pattern since nothing I like is especially compatible with 2x2 (more like 1x1 or one of the other ribbings she recommends). I'm still trying to get comfortable with the circs, but am finding it fairly quick so far.

Those will be my only socks (obviously not to be completed this month) for January. I've made 3 berets, an aran block for the afghan, and an aran scarf though so a pretty good month for me. Tomorrow is knitting class and I'm doing a demo on hooked beading which means, er, I'll be getting my act together tonight with an appropriate swatch to bead and let people practice on Very Happy We have slight possibilities for snow here starting tomorrow and through the early part of next week. If it's going to continue to be in the 20s, I'd personally enjoy having some snow with it (sun and teens-twenties is a little disconcerting!).

I just have to kitchener the toe for my Sockamania January second sock. I'm to the heel flap of 9 to 5 #2 sock so I might get those finished by the end of the month. So that's 2 pairs in January for me. That's about what I average. Now I'm trying to decide what to cast on for next. I've joined a couple of KALs and a swap so I'm trying to figure how I might be able to combine those:-)

We are still working hard to get our coffee shop ready for business Feb. 1. Lots of cleaning Sad

I finally finished my sideways socks, and they now have a name.

Llamaknits proudly ( well, not that proudly as there's still a few errors in them ) presents:

Vertigo

The colours are not quite accurate, they're in plum and grey stripes, but hey, they've got vertical stripes.

So my next task awaits, I intend starting a pair of baby socks for a fellow knitter. I wonder who?

My "planned knitting" for last weekend took a "u" turn and I started another pair of socks for DH using some "stashed" Opal 6. They seem to be knitting up very quickly so I might actually finish them before the end of the month. I did finish my smooshy socks although I did start them in December, but considering the amount of company we had and how hard I worked, I think I made pretty good time with them.

The only other plans for this weekend is a home basketball game and church - a nice quiet weekend.

It was -4 when I got up this weekend, but it's supposed to warm up and maybe we'll get some showers.

Cool, Pete! They turned out very well. I've finished up two pair of socks in January. The Mr. MacGregor garden socks for hubby and just now, a pair for me. I'll post on the blog this weekend. (But, no way am I swinging my legs to the sky like that!) And perhaps I shall cast on some itty bitty socks, too. I just got Simple Socks Plain & Fancy by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts so I can learn a proper short-row heel. I like the look of those better with self-striping yarn. But, I haven't quite got the hang of that WT so little socks would be a good place to try it out.

Where IS Audrey anyway?

That is a good question Daniele! Where is our perky Silfert? (I hope she is well.....).

Let me know how the short row heel works for you. I'm actually interested to hear (from anyone) how it FITS compared to more standard heel arrangements. I figure learning two circs is enough of a curve for me at the moment, but a short row heel and doing a sock toe-up are other techniques on my "I must broaden my sock knitting horizons" list.

Pete, that photo just about DOES give me Vertigo - well named socks!

Pete, Love the socks, and they do kind of give one vertigo. Just got over a bout of it, not fun to have but the socks would be!

Actually I truly hate heights, I have an altimeter in my head which screams
"No! No!" when I get to the middle of a first floor window. Whenever I'm anywhere near a cliff ( rarely) I am convinced that the non-existent wind will cast me to my death.

For the photo I am lying on my back on the picnic table with my feet in the air - how elegant - while my daughter operates the camera.

Thanks for your kind comments.

P.

Waiting for snow to begin here - I could see white over the ridge to the West of me before it got dark. Going to be an excellent knitting day tomorrow since I don't think I'll be driving anywhere! (it rained up to dusk so once the temp drops, it is going to be seriously messy - snow on top of icy roads).

My sock on two circs is coming along great! I'm just not thinking about what I do at the gusset until I get there - gonna try and be at that point when I get to class next Saturday in case I need some gentle hand holding lol

Greedigs, ebrybuddy! *snerk* I've been entertaining myself with a cold!

The projects all sound like fun (but why in the world would you want to knit baby socks?). I've got three things going at once right now. As of yesterday morning, Himself and I have a new great-niece! Of course she needs a sweater, and a little felted bag to hold a diaper, wipes and a bottle for "quick" trips to the corner store.

I'm also working up a sweater for my mom...oh, wait! Four projects! Dad asked for another pair of socks...

Had to go to a Longaberger meeting today to see the new stuff coming out. Of course my big black sock went with me. I got about 4.5 hours of knitting in today on my 2nd sock. These size 13 socks are huge.

Knit on a blue and white sock after I got home tonight to break the montony. I have a couple of sweaters that would be done if I spent a couple of hours on them, but I'm going to get my socks for soldiers done first.
