Oh what an awful drought!! I did not think I could go on much longer. As it is I am still recovering from out move from VA to CT and this forum was helping with the fact that I miss so many of my friends. When the nutjobs that hacked this site shut it down I was so angry.
My husband noticed the change in me when the site went down. All I could do was wait.
It snowed a foot here today and all is white. But now Christmas for me as begun because my favorite forum is up and running.

Mary - don't worry about 'bumbling' through the forum. This format is all new to me as well. It took me a little while to find my way to registering and then to figure out how to read and reply!
I'm wondering, what is the best way to check in on this forum? With the yahoo groups, I am set up to get individual emails, so I just get the emails. Do you usually just check in once a day to read and answer posts in this forum? I'm looking forward to seeing how this works. Thanks for your work on this site. _________________ knitrn |

Hi Knitrn,
The forum has the ability to notify you when someone replies to your topic...so, when you don't have time to browse...post your new message and check the box "notify me when a reply is posted" under options.
What are you all knitting? This year has been a knitting drought for me...many projects started and little finished I'm looking forward to some quality knitting time in the near future!
Take care,
Mary

My big project for the year was a sweater for DH, started after his Christmas BD 2004, but was to be his BD gift then and was finished and presented October 2005! I used a pattern from a FC book where you were to use Lopi and color blend by combining 2 diff colored yarns together. I used KnitPicks Andean Silk yarns - 5 different coordinating colors. The result was a very warm and soft unique sweater. If there is a way to post pictures on this forum, I can do that because the colorations are kind of hard to describe. I had to reorder more yarn from knitpicks twice during the making due to my husband being tall and my making the sweater body and sleeves long enough to compensate for that.
Other finished projects were: 2 pr thrummed mittens, Ribbon X-back tank from Knitty, Pocketbook from Berocco Pattern using one of their ribbon yarns (lined nicely with a coordinating dishtowel), Another pair mittens using a new yarn and pattern from Knitpicks, Nantasket felted basket, one pair Christmas Stocking Socks (for me and worn yesterday), and I'm sure more things that I can't think of right now.
OTN projects - scarf for DS usnig 2 strands self patterning sock yarn (coming out nicely), another felted nantasket basket for a xmas gift (better hurry!), afghan for DS, Inca design scarf from Vogue 'On the Go' book pattern (started 2003), sweater for me using Lion Brand Kool Wool.
Plans for 2006: Learn magic loop sock method (I currently use 2 circs), master techniques in Queen Kahuna's Crazy toes and Heels book, at least 2 sweaters for me, an afghan for the house, finish afghan for DS, use up my sock yarn stash into actual socks, make socks from my 2 Opal skeins due in the mail any day now, finish all OTN projects for that matter
Mary - I hope your knitting drought ends this year! (BTW - is there a way to post pictures on this forum?) _________________ knitrn |

Hi--it's nice to have everyone back on the forum again!
Mary asked what we've been knitting--as for me, I haven't put the needles down this month. I finished a pair of fingerless gloves in Kroy, two pairs of socks, and I now have a cap cast on...only about an inch done so far. I still need to work on another pair of socks, a second pair of fingerless gloves, and a pair of mittens. Wish me luck...with all this frantic knitting, I may wind up being a "fingerless" knitter .

Hallelujah!
I heard of this place, came here, registered, came every day for about three days -- and the hacker hit. I've been checking every day since!
What I've been knitting? Well, my new sort-of Fair Isle sweater is still waiting for me to finish it -- neckline mostly. So is my most recent pair of socks (just plain wool). I have done two hats for a cancer patient -- one No Hair Day Hairy Hat (www.headhuggers.org) and one I designed that I call Nubian Pixie. I'm now working on a pair of toques (Zimmerman's brioche stitch) for her and her fiancee.

I'm another newby, discovered Socknitters a couple of weeks ago and have spent hours on the internet because of it.
What a great resource - all that experience for the asking!
I'm on my third pair of socks this season* having discovered the joys of Opal Brazil and Socka Fortissima. I'm now making some banded sox in Opal Uni for my husband, on my new Addis!
* I just can't knit during the summer, (a) too busy with sheep, lambs, alpacas, cria and hay, and (b) too sticky!)
I'm really looking forward to trying knitting two socks at once, but a bit scared too Still, I'm sure someone will help me if I get stuck!
I'm also new to this sort of forum, so I hope this ends up where I intend it to! |

Hi Knitrn,
Sorry it took so long for me to respond to your question. I was doing a little research on the photo issue. I am told that allowing folks to upload things is a prime way to get your forum hacked...since we've been hacked twice (using different forum software) I'm afraid we'll have to do without photos for a while.
Sorry!
Mary

Hi mary - now I understand why I had to re-register the other day after not checking the site for many months. Its wonderful to see the new site. My only question is how do I get it to email me when I get a response to a posting? I know its an option when you register but I thought I had checked that - anyway I did not get an email when I did get a response to a posting. Just wondering - monique |
