Just reporting in that we have a puppy who is not eating! We finally called the vet and he is going in again today to get a look over. Not sure what the problem is... Oh how we worry. _________________ Appaloosa

Awww, Lou, hope you get good news/ideas from the vet. It could be the heat. I know my Katie is not eating well because of it. I made her a protein shake yesterday and she gobbled that down.
Good luck.

Hey Judy! It could very well be the heat. It has gotten progressively warm here and with the antibiotics on top of that. What did you put in your protein shake? Maybe I should try that. _________________ Appaloosa

Thanks Needleq! We are hoping it is only the surgery and meds. Judy has a point about the heat though. MacDuff was always a fussy eater to start with. We will know soon. _________________ Appaloosa

Back from the vet with new meds. Scar looks good and everything is normal. Hopefully we are going to be hungry again soon! _________________ Appaloosa

I used 8 oz. whole milk, 1 scoop whey protein powder and about 6 frozen strawberries.
Anything to keep them cool and the added protein doesn't hurt. WEll, it won't hurt Kate now. When she was a pup I had to be careful of how much protein she got. Didn't want her to grow too fast and outgrow her bones. At 12 I don't think that is a worry.

Thanks Judy. I will try it with my guy. I'll pick up some whey protein powder at the health food store.
It actually sounds yummy enough to drink! _________________ Appaloosa

My daughter's Saint Bernard passed away Saturday evening. Molly was 9 1/2. She had been fine up to about 3 weeks ago. Grace thought that MolMoll had swallowed something and had an obstruction so took her to the vet. Val did all kinds of tests and xrays on her. There was no obstruction but she had VERY bad arthritis in her back. Also her electrolytes were out of whack, her blood sugar was low and she was dehydrated. She was in vet hospital for 3 days and came home with some pain meds.
The meds helped at first but then Grace ran out of them over weekend and could nt get more til Monday. I gave her a couple of Kates but they were not as strong as what Mol had.
Then Saturday night when Grace got home from a family gathering she found Mol dead. I just can't see arthritis killing MolMol that quickly. I think there was something else going on with Mol that was not found.
Grace was all broke up and I was too. I had helped her raise Mol when she was a pup. At least Gracie had Brian with her when she found Mol. We all thought Katie would go before Mol since Kate is older.
Katie is doing just fine. She can no longer haul herself up without my help but once I have her up she is able to walk on her own. So about every 2 hours or so I help her up and she either just stands or she takes a few steps.
Since she is now back in the family room she lets me sleep in. She waits for me to come down and then we go out. This hot weather has been hard on her. We really need to get out early before it gets too sweltery. It is supposed to be in the high 60's tomorrow morning so I am sure she will love that.

What a terrible way to lose her I know it's not anyone's fault, but I also know that Grace will probably be second-guessing things on how this unfolded - it's very hard. (been there in a similar situation, my head knows I didn't do anything wrong, but the heart....well....)

Gracie was up today. She is doing ok. She said that Brian said he thought that Mol had had a stroke. Earlier he said that she was holding her head to one side. So she may have had one and then had another and it took her. That makes more sense. It also made Grace feel better because as she said, "Even if I had all the money in the world there would have been nothing I could have done to save Molly."
Have any of you read the book "Heaven Is For Real"? It is a true story of a little boy who was very sick and went to Heaven then came back to life. In the book he assured his parents that there are animals in Heaven. I told Gracie that Molly was now in Heaven with PaPaw and that they were having a good time. I think it may have made Gracie feel a little better.
