Tracy went to see the hat and the yarn. Sold. I am going to go on line to order the yarn. It is yummy! The first hat will be for me. In this cold weather I am in the mood for knitting something warm. Haven't chosen my sock pattern yet but have been working on spinning and knitting wrist warmers from a merino/alpaca mix a guild member sold me. True spinners' candy! Now off to get my sock binder. _________________ Appaloosa

Isn't there something delightfully decadent about the idea of saying "I have a mink hat"?
Let me know what color you decide to get Lou - I'm torn between the red and the blue jean blue (Rita). I expect by next fall I'll have a little wardrobe of mink hats lol. _________________ REVISED 2011 Knitting Resolution: 6 "big projects" - shawls and/or sweaters ('cause I'm just too distracted by other patterns to do only VLT patterns this year!) |

Audrey, on the shoulder....A friend of ours was having a lot of trouble with his shoulders and was looking at possible surgery. He was just telling us Sat that when he was out at Sturgis a guy came up to him and asked him about his shoulders. They got to talking and the guy told him to get gin and soak WHITE raisins in it for a week and then eat a teaspoon of the raisins every day. He said it really helped him. He certainly was able to move his arms better than he could last year. Burl said that he really thinks the man may have been an angel. Right after they finished talking and the man walked away he thought he should have gotten his name. He turned to ask him and the guy was just gone.
Anyway, I had heard of the gin and raisin before. You might want to give it a try.

I knew I had heard this before, I just couldn't remember where.
Burl did say that they don't taste very good but they do the trick so he is going to keep taking them.
I prob should take them for my knees, I think about it.

I might give it a try myself - can't hurt anything Well...for most of us. I have a friend with very bad arthritis, but her husband is a recovering alcoholic so I know this isn't something she can try. It's sort of funny that there is a specific "dosage" - 9 raisins. Do you suppose you can knit lace after eating those?
OK, I am soooooo out of it. Just realized that I don't have a black coat or a red coat, but I DO have a sage green coat. Guess I now know what color mink head topper I'll be making for myself first. And that shop is open until 9pm on Wednesdays. Woo-hoo. _________________ REVISED 2011 Knitting Resolution: 6 "big projects" - shawls and/or sweaters ('cause I'm just too distracted by other patterns to do only VLT patterns this year!) |

I was thinking Marilyn or Ginger. It just looks so scrumptious. And the topper is a good gift! Interesting about the raisins and gin. My grandmother always had a small shot of gin at night to help with her arthritis. And she claimed that it worked. She had it really bad. _________________ Appaloosa

I was so gonna look up the raisins and gin but quickly saw Tracy did it for me! I think I'll have to give this a try and feed the raisins to DH. He's on anti-inflammatories for his knee. Couldn't hurt.
But now that I got to that page I had to check out : Dr. Oz Lose 20 Pounds In 30 Days Tim Ferriss Diet Plan. Umm no thanks...ice therapy! I love my warm showers waaaaay too much. Maybe a cool shower will get rid of just 5? *smile* Makes some sense though...you burn more calories when you're cold (maybe that's why hubby looks so good after all his winter hiking. ) Of course then all of us in Canada should look great at least half of the year. |

I might have to go back and check again but...is the gin/raisins thing supposed to work for osteoarthritis? Or rheumatoid? Or both? _________________ REVISED 2011 Knitting Resolution: 6 "big projects" - shawls and/or sweaters ('cause I'm just too distracted by other patterns to do only VLT patterns this year!) |

First, sorry I haven't checked in. I know, I know, the usual penalty applies, whoops, there isn't a 'usual penalty' here is there?

BTW, how is it that I-131 both CURES and CAUSES thyroid cancer? (I feel like I'm watching a Batman episode and the Riddler says "Riddle me this.....") (that's a rhetorical question on the cure/cause - I understand why  )

Now, in Britain there is a certain popular newspaper which is famed for dividing ALL substances into two categories - those that cause and those that cure cancer, and yes, some are in both categories.
Not good to hear about rotator cuffs and arthritis all round. Would 'white raisins' be what we call sultanas perhaps? I'd always heard that you weren't supposed to mix grain and grape, but hey, what do I know?
Sorry, I'm rambling.
Oh, my mother has inherited a mink coat ( which she hates) perhaps it could be shorn and turned into yarn...

Yes on the sultanas Pete.
Really! Best on RA. I think I'll have to conduct an experiment (I have OA, but have several friends with RA). Washington is such a freaky state in which to buy hard liquor - the stupidest state I've lived in. You have to go to a state run store (which other states have). There are very few and the one nearest me is in a seedy sort of neighborhood and you feel like you're doing something illegal by going there. I only ran the gauntlet once - to buy bourbon for bourbon balls at Christmas.

Not sure but I think we can buy gin at Wal-Mart. I know they have wine and beer and some other liquor.
Not good to have to go to a seedy part of town. Of course in little ole Jackson we don't really have a seedy part of town.
Hope it works for you.

Oooo I don't think I would go to the seedy part of town alone! We don't have access to liquor unless it is at a provincial LCBO store or Beer store. However our neighbours in Québec have access to beer and wine in corner stores. Go figure! _________________ Appaloosa
